Yelp Eats!

This week, restaurants around town are offering $25 prix-fixe three-course menus as part of Yelp Eats! restaurant Week. The price does not include tip and tax. It appears to be very similar to Miami Spice, but after looking at the offerings at each restaurant, Yelp Eats! seems to be the winner. There are several appealing options on the list of participating restaurants, including; 660 at the Angler’s Resort, Alta Mar, Au Pied du Cochon, Café Sambal at the Mandarin Oriental (the more casual eatery at the hotel), Casa Toscana, Escopazzo, Graziano’s (Brickell), Jaguar, La Cofradia, Pacific Time, Red Koi and Red, the Steakhouse.Since I was dining with Jen, a fellow steak lover, the choice was clear – Red, the Steakhouse. I attempted to research the restaurant, but couldn’t really find anything. I couldn’t even find the Zagat review, and that always makes me a little nervous. But hey, it’s a steakhouse, so how wrong could it be. It was a true winner for $25! Not exactly, it was closer to double the price after wine and coffee. The service – superb. The waiter picked exactly the right moment to approach the table and ensure that everything was going well.Once seated, the Yelp Eats! menu was waiting for us as well as the wine list, cocktail list and regular menu. The wine list didn’t offer too many by glass choices, but they did offer one of my favorite: Malbec. What I really liked was that they offered 1/2 bottle options, and quite a few at that. The dinner began with homemade bread and a mixture of Parmessano Reggiano cheese, chili pepper flakes, and Romano cheese, all drizzled with extra virgin olive oil. Yummy. For the appetizer, I chose the “RED” house salad. The salad included baby greens, candied walnuts, goat cheese and a very red raspberry vinaigrette. The contrast of walnuts, goat cheese and vinaigrette was a perfect pairing. It was a pretty large salad for an appetizer, and could have easily been shared or served 1/2 portion. Of course that didn’t stop me from finishing it. The entree was a Certified Angus Beef Prime Sirloin Steak served with potatoes and asparagus. According to our waiter, the CAB served at the Red, The Steakhouse is only served there and at the Waldorf Astoria in NYC…pretty special. The steak was done to perfection and finished with aglio brushing (Kosher Salt, Tellecherry Pepper and garlic). To top off dinner, dessert was molten chocolate cake. It wasn’t just any regular molten chocolate cake, but rather a work of art. I admired the presentation so much that I didn’t want to eat it! Truthfully, I was really, really full, but still couldn’t resist having few bites. And I certainly didn’t regret those bites, which were warm, sweet and very filling. If you are ordering it, share it with a friend.All in all, it was a great choice and I enjoyed it very much, but taking a peek at the regular priced menu, I highly doubt I will be going back any time soon. The atmosphere of the restaurant was great for corporate dinners, with modern black and red decor. For some reason the sleek look left me feeling very cold. Service on the other hand was as warm and welcoming as you can get in South Beach. Kudos to the management for hiring a great staff.
